Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are one of the options we offer for straightening teeth in our office; while working very similarly to traditional braces, this method is much more concealable. Rather than brackets and wires being attached to the front of the teeth, lingual braces work by having these pieces attached to the backs of each tooth. This makes the option more appealing for anyone that enjoys the idea of completing their treatment privately.

Some benefits of lingual braces include:

  • Invisibility – While of course, lingual braces aren’t truly clear or invisible, they certainly are difficult to detect. With each bracket and wire fit snugly against the backs of your teeth, you are likely to be the only one who knows they are there.
  • Less Painful – Many patients with traditional braces tend to experience pain as their gums adjust to the brackets and wires. With lingual braces, these components have no contact with your gums and cheeks. This helps you to avoid sores and ulcers inside your mouth and to feel comfortable throughout the process.

Invisalign clear aligners are composed of a system of clear, smooth aligner trays that are designed to slip over your teeth and begin straightening your smile. The Invisalign system is a popular option for those seeking convenience, comfort, and a discreet appearance while undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Depending on the alignment of your teeth, you may need to wear between 20 or 30 custom-made clear aligner trays over the course of your treatment. These are to be worn each day for at least 22 hours, only removed for brushing, flossing, or eating. By following the progressive timeline coordinated by your dentist, you can achieve a straight smile in as little as six months!

Clear braces

Clear braces are made from a tooth-colored ceramic material that blends easily with the teeth, making them less noticeable and more appealing to the patient. Working similarly to traditional braces, this option utilizes the same technique while doing away with the metallic appearance.

Clear braces are often preferred by our older patients, such as teenagers and adults, who wish to straighten their teeth without compromising their smile appearance during treatment. Benefits of clear braces include:

  • Discreet, blendable style
  • Confident smile throughout treatment
  • Smoother brackets than traditional braces
  • Proven effective with great results

Traditional Metal Braces

Even with all the other options available, you shouldn’t overlook the benefits of traditional braces! Traditional metallic braces are a well-established method dating as far back as the 17th century. With many years of excellent treatment results and advancements made to improve their appeal, traditional braces are a great choice.

  • Metal brackets are applied to the front surface of each tooth.
  • These brackets are connected together by a metallic wire.
  • Every four to six weeks, these wires are tightened.
  • Finally, once teeth have been guided into the correct alignment, these pieces are removed and the treatment is complete.

At Lakeview Smiles, we have over 25 different elastic band colors to choose from so you or your kids can personalize braces brackets however you like! At our practice, we are focused on making the process a fun and enjoyable experience.

Treatment of Bad Habits

It’s easy to develop habits at any point in life, but bad oral health habits tend to start at a young age. While these problematic practices may seem innocent, they have the potential to begin causing problems as children grow older. These habits include:

  • Thumb sucking
  • Tongue thrusting
  • Sipping sippy cups
  • Gnawing pencils, toys, etc.

Over time, these behaviors can cause teeth to begin shifting out of alignment or suffering damage. When you bring your child to our office, we can easily spot the development of these issues and provide treatment to resolve the problem before it becomes worse. We can also offer tips to help break bad habits and prevent the need for treatment entirely.

Through proper orthodontic care, treatment, and preventative measures to break these habits, your child can grow to have a healthy, straight smile.

Orthopedic Treatment

While orthodontic care focuses mainly on straightening teeth, orthopedics is a bit more involved in the anatomy, as it is directed towards the positioning of the facial bones and jaw. Our orthopedic services are designed to address problems pertaining to facial growth or facial development in growing children.

As their bodies continue to grow, the bones, muscles, and ligaments in their facial region and oral structure begin to change. Proper orthopedic care is designed to address any problems we recognize in these structures and treat them by either oral appliance or surgery. Oftentimes, orthopedics is used in the treatment of:

  • Crossbite
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Narrow, underdeveloped jaws

We find that orthopedic treatment is best performed early in life as this reduces the chances of children requiring surgical interventions later in life. Because their jaw is still developing, the tissue is more malleable and easier to adjust using oral appliances.
